چکیده

ABSTRACT We describe the change in fish community of Porce River Magdalena Basin, Colombia, following construction III hydropower reservoir based on 13 years monitoring data. The results show a clear reduction number native species, which have been supplanted by colonizing non-native especially reservoir. Four species detected prior to dam apparently disappeared, but 12 new were registered post-construction. analyzed spatial changes beta diversity aquatic environments surrounding dam. environment generated presents unique composition and contributes significantly total system. Altogether three distinct assemblages emerged formation there are now six where had previously three. This dramatic change, already visible within decade construction, highlights just how strong an impact has habitats rapidly communities react this hotspot for endemic diversity. Our findings demonstrate importance revealing damming river ecosystems informs potential complementary inventories elsewhere basin.

Mercury in Selected Fish Species Over Time

We explored the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources’ (WI DNR) fish contaminant database to determine the availability and utility of historical (1970 2002) Hg records for different species and to identify lakes with historical Hg data. Walleye skin-on fillets were selected for further examination. This project supported processing and characterization of 310 additional walleyes from 36 la...

Migration and Spawning of Radio-Tagged Zulega Prochilodus argenteus in a Dammed Brazilian River

—It is difficult for agencies to evaluate the impacts of the many planned dams on São Francisco River, Brazil, migratory fishes because fish migrations are poorly known. We conducted a study on zulega Prochilodus argenteus, an important commercial and recreational fish in the São Francisco River, to identify migrations and spawning areas and to determine linear home range. During two spawning s...
